Chairman’s report 2022/2023 season
With the 2022-23 completed, as a club our growing team of volunteers are already planning next season behind the scenes whilst also trying to relax and recharge the batteries ready for another season.
Progress on the pitch has been excellent with 7 teams competing in the 2022/23 season and we add two more new u7 teams for next season so we will be up to 9 teams with the continued Saturday soccer club which will now become BYFC Saturday soccer development, which going forward I shall become development officer and I shall appoint one or two helpers to oversee the sessions with me.
We will be looking to run the canteens at both the rec and the college this season and shall be looking for volunteers from each team to run these.
New kits were purchased and tracksuit tops for most of the teams and new kits and tracksuit tops are currently being orders for this season.
We are just awaiting news of the hut at the college so we can return to having a canteen on Saturdays and Sundays over there.
We now have more coaches than we have ever had as a club, with possibly 20 qualified in the new coming season!
A massive thanks to Rachael and Marc who have stepped down as club secretaries respectively, Rachael has spent four years as secretary and will be missed for her good work as she moves onto a league secretary position within the crow league.
Finances are good, we have done well to balance the books over the last 4-5 of years, club sponsorship of kits has made a massive impact on this so again to our sponsors thank you very much and well done Julia!!!
Our trophy day was a big success and we are almost at the time of our annual gala day which will be our biggest one yet in July 23rd at bassingbourn rec.
Onto the teams;
Where to start… our u16 team finished runners up in their division after a strong season together, now making the step up into the u18 division for this campaign.
Our u14’s had restructured last season, with most players playing up a league for 4 years, a brilliant season at their correct age level with a few new players with our striker claiming the golden boot in that division with a whopping 48 goals!
The u13 warriors continue to play good football and had a hard season together, with lots of close games and always being competitive despite not getting the results they deserved, the team look forward to a strong season this year as u14’s.
The u11’s Jets again built on an ever growing squad with the addition of some new players during this year and gained some excellent results in the process, with a really happy bunch of players.
Our u9 apaches continue to develop and play some entertaining football in games together, teamwork and comradery is everything in the squad and now move to u10’s this coming season.
The u8’s in their first season as a team went from strength to strength this year moving up from our Saturday soccer club, in the 23/24 season they will become the u9 Bassingbourn Bulldogs!
The youngest team at BYFC the u7’s had a fantastic season and really hit the ground running, moving up several divisions very quickly, after moving up from Saturday soccer club as well they excelled on the pitch together and this season they also have a new name the u8 Bassingbourn Bombers!
Lastly Saturday Soccer club, at the end of last season the continued development of the club produced both u7 & u8 teams with nearly 20 players moving up with great success!
we have now started two more u7 teams starting their BYFC journey this coming season the Wanderers and the Majors!
I can’t wait to see how they get on.
After losing 20 children to our new teams last September I wondered if we would have enough kids but due to the popularity and growth of this over the last 5 years now they turn up in their masses every week, sometimes 25 children both boys and girls!!
So I hope this continues into this season as we rename Saturday soccer club - BYFC Saturday soccer development, a constant bloodline to BYFC.
I wish everyone every success and happiness for this upcoming season, and who will win the u16 vs managers/parents match at gala day.
